Exciting news about options for donating to the ministry of St. John’s

                                                                                                                        February 8, 2022

Dear parishioners and friends of St. John’s,

We are writing this note to advise all Parishioners and Friends of St. John’s of the many ways it is possible to make donations to St. John’s, including news that for the first time ever we are able to accept on-line e-transfers.

The traditional way to donate has been via collection taken during regular services. This method has been more challenged during the last two COVID-19 pandemic years and as a result total offerings have declined, particularly during 2021. Those of you that use regular donation envelopes will note that the envelopes are not pre-numbered this year. That is just an administrative change. It does not affect the recording and tax receipting process – in fact it makes it easier. We thank all those who have maintained their donations through the pandemic, whether that has been at services or by dropping donations off at the Parish Office or mailing in your contributions. Thank you!

For some years we have had a Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR) option for automatic bank withdrawal for remittance to the Parish; this system is managed on our behalf through the Diocesan Office. You can set up PAR remittance in any amount and on any regular frequency you wish by contacting Tammy Cummins in the Diocesan Office, at tcummins@nspeidiocese.ca or (902) 420-0717. More information can be found here: https://www.nspeidiocese.ca/pages/par-program From personal experience I can say that this is a very convenient way to remit some or all of your annual offering to the Parish.

Our web site provides a link to Canada Helps which is an on-line way to donate to St. John’s. Through Canada Helps one can make a onetime donation and receive an immediate tax receipt or set up a regular series of donations and receive one annual tax receipt.  Tax receipts for these donations are issued by Canada Helps. Again, I have made donations to other Churches and charities through Canada Helps and it is a very efficient way to make donations. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/parish-of-st-johns-anglican-church-lunenburg/

Finally, the new news – e-transfers! We have been able to set up a new e-business bank account that allows us to now accept e-transfers. Many of us know the convenience of making payments by bank e-transfer.  This payment method is available to anyone wishing to donate or make payments (such as  rentals) to St. John’s. This can be done by using our regular Parish email address  stjohnslunenburg@bellaliant.com

Our e-transfer is set up for auto-deposit so there is no need to provide a transfer password. The process is, as many will know, very easy. We just ask that in the Message section of the transfer details you clearly include your name and note the nature of your donation – such as regular offering, memorial donation, planned gift, Lent, Easter, Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas or whatever the purpose of your gift is to be. E-transfer donations will be added to your annual Parish income tax receipt.

The budget approved by Parish Council, which will be presented to the Annual Meeting on February 27, 2022, calls for 2022 donations to increase by 10% over the total received in 2021. The budget forecasts 2022 donations returning to the 2020 level. We ask that each of you reflect upon your financial support for the work of your Parish, and help us achieve the targeted level of donations if you are able.

Thank you!

Please contact us if you have any questions or suggestions.
